September Celebrations in Honduras

September is a very special month in Honduras, filled with meaningful celebrations and traditions.
We begin on September 1st, National Flag Day. On this day, sixth-grade students from schools throughout the community gather in the civic plaza. Together with local authorities, they raise the national flag during a special and solemn civic ceremony.
On September 10th, we celebrate Children’s Day, a day the children look forward to all year. It is a time filled with piñatas, candy, games, and gifts. Most importantly, it is a day for the children to feel loved and celebrated.
Then, on September 15th, we celebrate Honduras’ Independence Day. It is a joyful and patriotic celebration. Schools proudly participate with marching bands, colorful floats, and special programs as everyone comes together to celebrate our country.
A Special Visit
This month at Ministries of Faith New Life, we were blessed to welcome Dr. Dania Menjívar, a dentist who spent time with the children at our school teaching them about the importance of good dental hygiene and taking care of their teeth.
After the presentation, the children enjoyed a piñata, dinner, and cake. It was a wonderful evening, and the children had such a great time!
Celebrating the Bible
Honduras also has the special privilege of celebrating Bible Day on the last Sunday of September.
This year, we gathered at the park in A
zacualpa, where Christian churches from throughout the municipality came together for a special revival service in celebration of Bible Day. It was a beautiful time of worship and fellowship, and we truly felt the presence of God among us.
Meet our teacher…Sahira!
My name is Sahira, and first of all, I want to thank God for these 14 years of learning, growth, experience, and love that He has given me through Ministries of Faith New Life. This ministry has been such a blessing to me and to so many families, children, and young people.
Being part of this ministry has brought me so much joy and has given me new challenges along the way—challenges that, with God’s help, we have been able to overcome.
When I first began working at the school, I came with open arms and a heart full of hope and expectations. In those early days, the school was just a small seed beginning to grow. I committed myself to being a teacher not just as a job, but with all my heart.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of watching that little seed grow into a strong tree—one that now provides a place of support, love, and opportunity for so many families, children, and young people.
Every school year has brought a new lesson, not only for my students, but especially for me.
As I look back on the journey we have traveled together, I can only thank God for giving me the opportunity to be part of this beautiful ministry. I am especially grateful to Sister Marleni Castro for her trust in me, to the American groups who have come and served with such love, and, above all, to my students, who have taught me so much along the way.
I am also deeply grateful for the support and encouragement you have given to my son, Carlos Aarón.
My life is woven into the halls of this beautiful school.
After all these years, I am still standing strong, just as I was on my first day—ready to continue with the same passion and to embrace whatever new chapters God chooses to write in my life.
We continue moving forward with God’s help.
